Design, calculation, and wiring up skills are all required for this year’s Seawork Marine Electrical Apprentice & Cadet Competition, sponsored by British Maritime Training & Assessment (BMTA).
Taking place on Thursday 11 June, in just three weeks’ time, this year’s competition has been expanded to include Level 4 cadets and apprentices for the first time, in addition to the cohort of Level 3 apprentices.
A technical battle that takes place during Seawork’s Training and Careers Day, the Seawork Marine Electrical Apprentice & Cadet Competition takes place in real time with the task set on the day itself. Apprentices and cadets alike will need to exercise their design, calculation, and wiring up skills (taking current standards into account), before implementing the all-important ‘does it work?’ test.
Sponsors BMTA are Specialist Lecturers, Trainers & Assessors in Marine Electrical, Electronics and Marine Engineering fully approved by the British Marine Electrical and Electronics Association (BMEEA).
BMTA was founded in June 2023 when Richard Broden-Cowell and Owen Davies recognised an opportunity to better support the industry more broadly and offer services more widely and nationally. With over 50 years combined experience within the Marine Leisure and Commercial Industry, Richard and Owen have delivered the BMET and MEI courses on behalf of British Marine for over 15 years and have been teaching in FE & HE for a combined period of over 20 years. They are also independent EPA assessors for British Marine and OAL. BMTA delivers, assesses and develops courses countrywide both commercially and within a vocational setting.
The Seawork Marine Electrical Apprentice & Cadet Competition is supported by Energy Solutions, with the provision of the test rigs, task setting and judging duties.
