Demand for electric bow thrusters on the rise

Hercules Hydraulics has seen a significant uptick in demand for electric bow thrusters since Seawork 2025.

With a growing number of customers and new companies placing orders, the company says it’s clear the shift towards lighter, cleaner, and more efficient propulsion is accelerating, particularly across the workboat sector.

Manufactured in-house by Hercules CSMD, Hercules’ electric bow thrusters are purpose-built for continuous duty, engineered around Class Rules, and ideal for commercial applications. Fully encapsulated and available with a tunnel made from Class Approved extruded 5083-grade aluminium or mild steel, each tunnel can be cut to required length – up to 5 metres. The encapsulated pod, tunnel, and tube design makes it failsafe and leak free.

A lightweight, heavy-duty unit that’s up to 50% lighter than equivalent systems, without compromising strength or durability, each unit is fitted with a stainless-steel shaft and spiral bevel gears – designed for longevity, ease of maintenance, and high performance in demanding marine environments.
