Kort Propulsion is working alongside Bifrost Tug and Nogva Heimdal on an exciting propulsion efficiency development for the maritime market.
The patented solution designed specifically for vessels operating with nozzles will be introduced at Seawork 2026. The Bifrost Thrust Rudder & Fin works by recovering energy from the propeller wake and optimising the flow through the nozzle, converting more engine power into useful thrust.
Real-world testing has already demonstrated impressive results, including an increase in bollard pull from 7 tonnes to 8.4 tonnes on the reference tug Daafjord, allowing the vessel to undertake work normally reserved for larger tugs.
The solution has been developed in cooperation with a propulsion package including a Nogva Heimdal propeller and Kort Propulsion nozzle, demonstrating how integrated propulsion solutions can deliver measurable operational and environmental benefits; Increase bollard pull without increasing installed power Reduce fuel consumption and emissions Improve towing, pushing and workboat performance Enhance operational efficiency for tugs, workboats, fishing vessels and other high-thrust applications
Kort Propulsion is celebrating 90 years of propulsion innovation, supporting technologies that complement existing propeller and nozzle systems while improving vessel efficiency, sustainability and capability.
