Over 280 students took the opportunity to visit Seawork 2024; exploring the exhibition, talking to individual companies and attending the Careers Fair.
Working with Maritime UK Solent and Solent Partners, the Seawork Training and Careers Day started with the first session of 'Commercial Marine's Got Talent', where the students listened to young people talk about their own career pathway and ambitions in a series of short inspirational talks. Twenty four companies showed their wares and opportunities in the Careers Fair itself.
So what did the potential commercial marine employees of the future think about it all? Here’s what the students and their teachers had to say
"A wonderfully informative event that inspired my students.”
“This is by far the best careers fair for my Marine engineering students looking for employment."
“Our students were captivated by the speakers and their experiences during the conference event and loved having the freedom to explore the stalls and ask questions afterwards to find out more.”
“They enjoyed all aspects. Exploring the exhibition was probably the bit they enjoyed most but the careers presentation was actually the most useful.”
“Students were already excited about the day before going after hearing from the previous year’s students and the day did not disappoint!”
“We loved the event, it was a long drive but worth it, we loved speaking to companies.”
“We found talking to the companies very interesting and it was great to go on the boats and see how they work.”
“A great opportunity to see the many and varied careers available in the maritime industry.”
“Thank you for organising the day and we look forward to attending again in the future!”
So…they came, they saw, but did maritime careers conquer? We'll take that as a yes!
