Fabio is an experienced safety engineer with a passion for sustainable energy and a mission to facilitate the decarbonization of industries through technology research, innovative projects, and risk-based policies. He currently serves as the Regulatory Approach Engineering Lead at the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, where he is currently responsible for the regulatory framework to enable innovative projects such as alternative fuels and autonomous ships. In the MCA, Fabio also contributed to the development of IMO regulations and provisions on energy efficiency, alternative fuels, and marine equipment. Prior to his role at the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, Fabio worked as a Senior Specialist at Lloyd's Register, where in addition to reviewing and approving engineering designs against statutory regulations and class standards, he also he contributed to feasibility studies, and risk assessment on alternative design involving the use of low flash point fuels.
Fabio also served as safety officer onboard the semisubmersible crane vessel Saipem 7000 (offshore construction) and Environment, Health, and Safety Manager at General Electric (installation of gas turbines for energy generation) and CEMIT (construction of a newly built power plant) where he ensured the implementation of corporate policies in numerous sites within the EMEA and Gulf of Mexico region.
Fabio is continuously developing his knowledge in Safety Engineering BEng (Hons) with advanced training such as fire and evacuation modelling (University of Greenwich), Software Assurance for Machine Learning and Autonomous System (University of York) and most recently in process safety & functional safety engineering (61508 & 61511).
