I’m Molly McMaster, a Graduate Engineer working for VolkerStevin on the Southsea Coastal Scheme in Portsmouth. The scheme is the UK’s largest local authority-led coastal defences project, stretching across 4.5km of coastline. Currently at risk are 10,000 homes, 700 businesses, 74 listed structures and 4 critical access routes as the existing sea defences are between 50-100 years old and do not provide enough protection against flooding. The new defences will reduce the risk of a major flood event now and for the next 100 years.
