The Metropolitan Police's Marine Policing Unit (MPU) will be showcasing a Zodiac Hurricane RHIB at Speed@Seawork this year.
Based at Wapping Police Station alongside the River Thames in London UK, the MPU is responsible for policing 47 miles of the River Thames in London between Dartford and Hampton Court. There has been a police building for river police on this site since 1798.
The MPU also provides a response to over 250 miles of waterways and other bodies of water across the rest of London, such as lakes, reservoirs and canals.
As a 24-hours-a-day, seven days a week, frontline policing unit, MPU officers will face many of the same situations as their landside colleagues, such as community-based issues, security, and crime and antisocial behaviour.
Zodiac Hurricane boats, tailored for military operations, are a fusion of specialised design and custom features to meet specific mission requirements. These versatile models can operate from ships, shores, or air, with hulls crafted in aluminium or advanced composites for strength and performance. Take a look at the video clip, captured during a very recent MPU training exercise.
Speed@Seawork is the prime platform to showcase the capabilities of fast vessels serving in security operations, intervention, and Search And Rescue missions—sectors that are increasingly important to the commercial marine industry. Expect exclusive presentations from the UK DE&S MOD Boats Team and the National Shipbuilding Office. Take part in sea trials. Network with MOD representatives from 19 countries around the world, Police, UK Border Force and many other marine and civil companies in attendance.
