Careers & Training
We are delighted to have worked with Maritime UK and the Solent LEP to deliver a programme focused on careers in the commercial marine industry on Thursday 23rd June 2022.

There were many maritime businesses thinking hard about staffing and HR, who have an array of different job opportunities available. Commercial marine needs to show itself to be an attractive, multifaceted sector to attract trainees and graduates and we have the opportunity to do this at Seawork. All of our exhibitors can show the huge scope of roles in the industry both on the water and those shore based, the opportunities available for people with or without qualifications and what schemes and help are out there to facilitate this.

We brought students and young people aged between 16 and 19 from local colleges / training centres and universities to see firsthand what a job in commercial marine could look like and gain some first hand experience on the opportunities available.

Planned events:

Quiz - Each student will be given some questions to ask approximately 10 - 15 exhibitors. They will cover subjects such as entry level into the organisation, apprenticeships or graduate schemes, and others about employment.

Competition - We will be asking the students to take a photograph at the event for use on social media and there will be an interactive prize such as a workplace visit for their class or a day of work experience for the student.

Presentations - We have a range of organisations who will give a small presentation on their stand (1 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon) about recruitment / career opportunities / apprenticeship case studies for the students / potential employees to come along to.

Jobs - We have asked our exhibitors to have a print out on their stand detailing and job opportunities they currently have available. The event will be based in the Training & Careers Pavilion where we will have companies showcasing their training and apprenticeship schemes. We also have other organisations such as X-Emergency Services who support all ex emergency services personnel with career transition. Another great way of filling the job vacancies and openings in organisations.
