CAREERS @ SEAWORK

We are delighted to be working with Maritime UK and the Solent LEP to deliver an exciting careers event on the final day of Seawork, 15th June 2023.

Maritime businesses and organisations offer a range of different job opportunities and are always seeking to expand the skills base of existing and future employees.

The commercial marine industry is an attractive, multifaceted sector which needs to maximise the promotion of its career opportunities to attract trainees and graduates.

We can help with this at Seawork this year.

Our exhibitors come from all sectors of the industry and can show the huge scope of roles available, both on the water and shore based, for people with or without qualifications. They can also offer advice on the schemes and help available to enable young and not so young to get on to the commercial marine job path.

Training & Careers Pavilion

With a focus on skills, learning and employment, this pavilion, open on all three days of Seawork, gives visitors the chance to explore opportunities within the commercial marine industry. Exhibitors include specialist recruitment companies, education centres and training organisations, many with apprenticeship schemes, all offering expert advice on how to start and maintain a successful maritime career.

Careers Trail

We will be implementing a new career’s trail this year using QR Codes. More information will be available on this shortly.

TRAINING & CAREERS DAY – THURSDAY 15th JUNE

We will be bringing students and young people aged between 15 and 19 from local schools / colleges / training centres / universities to see first-hand what a job in the commercial marine industry could look like and to gain some valuable insight on the opportunities available.

Between 1000 and 1200 students will attend two dedicated Career’s events, taking place in Seawork’s Conference Rooms.

The students will then be encouraged to tour Seawork, speaking to exhibitors, visiting the pontoons, going onboard vessels and taking part in our video competition with an opportunity to win some great prizes.

Conference Room 1: Careers / Training Fair

Our large conference room will host the Careers and Training Fair where Seawork exhibitors will be on hand to offer advice, information, literature and giveaways.

Students will get a unique chance to talk and question professionals and trainees who are currently working in the industry, getting a personal insight into the companies and the work opportunities on offer.

Conference Room 2: Commercial Marine has Talent

The smaller conference room will host “Commercial Marine has Talent”, a live showcase of people working in the industry. Speakers from across the sectors will be selected specifically to appeal to the audience and to allow the young people to actively engage in assessing whether a career in the industry is for them.

Expect upbeat presentations and some lively questioning - “how they got to where they are, why the job is so amazing, what are the career and salary prospects.”

There may even be a vote for the most desired job...

We hope to have the winner of the Young Maritime Professional Award as one of our showcase panel.
