The Port of Milford Haven has turned to PME Group to repower the pilot vessel ‘Picton’, a vital asset in ensuring the safe passage of vessels through one of the UK’s most strategically important waterways.
The deal was signed at Seawork by John Warneford - Assistant Harbourmaster, Port of Milford Haven, and Martin Jackson - PME Sales Manager.
The ‘Picton’ was successfully repowered with two MAN D2868 LE 446 engines, supplied by PME Group. Providing high-end operational capability, the workhorse V8 engines are set to complement the Port’s existing pilot vessel fleet that operates in demanding conditions.
Following the successful repower, Luke Mason, Mechanical and Electrical Maintenance Manager at the Port of Milford Haven, commented on the thought process involved in selecting the new MAN engines and subsequent installation, "Ensuring the safety of our people and efficiency of our operations is paramount, and we are delighted with the choice to install the MAN engines supplied by PME Group.
“The repowering of Picton has reduced the associated engine noise in the wheelhouse, improved the power delivery, giving smooth and reliable acceleration on demand, as well as reducing the physical footprint of the powerplant in the engine room.
“Our fleet's capabilities are crucial in enabling our vessel crews and pilots to continue delivering a world-class service in one of the UK’s most strategically important waterways."
