As the maritime world moves steadily closer to autonomy, the question of regulation has never been more pressing. The next Seawork Insights online session to be held on Thursday 19th March, “Autonomy at Sea – The Future of Global Regulations for Autonomous Vessels and Underwater Systems,” will explore what lies ahead for the industry from international policy to practical implementation offshore.
This session is partnered with the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA), a supporting association of Seawork. IMCA is at the forefront of autonomous maritime developments; their technical advisers, Roger Moore and Richard Purser, will examine the forthcoming IMO framework for Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS) and its implications for vessel operations and subsea systems worldwide.
Key topics include:
· The regulatory perspective: How IMO’s MASS Code will influence future operations.
· IMCA’s response - what the association is doing to align industry practices with upcoming standards.
· The four levels of autonomy: defining operational stages and how they could lead toward a global standard.
· Remote and autonomous systems - from ROVs, AUVs, and USVs to cross-sector lessons from aerospace.
· IMCA’s ongoing work in developing accreditation pathways for inspectors in remote and autonomous operations.
With their decades of combined experience, Roger Moore and Richard Purser will offer a technical yet accessible look at autonomy’s next frontier.
This Seawork Insights session will provide a valuable update on where autonomy meets regulation and how industry professionals can prepare for what’s coming next.
