Grounded in its prior success with Phantom 1, a compact AUV built for the US Navy, Dynautics recently scaled the design for a new project. Phantom 2 is a 3-metre, modular AUV that can carry varied payloads, such as side scan sonar, as well as offering greater endurance and operational depth.
Phantom 2 uses Dynautics' proven autopilot technology. The team also advanced the development process and optimised vehicle efficiency using its AUV simulator technology.
During sea trials, Phantom 2 demonstrated exceptional surface manoeuvrability and operated at shallow depths with a cruising speed of 4 knots and 12 hours endurance. The design is rated to 100m depths, providing access to littoral areas and much of the continental shelf. Repeated missions were completed without the need for interim recovery, validating the modular design and communication systems for enhanced operational efficiency.
Dynautics will be exhibiting Phantom 2 on stand P19 at Seawork 2026.
