Barrus Ltd has confirmed its support for FreeSpirit of the Sea, a purpose-built charity vessel designed to deliver lifesaving outreach, community engagement and training opportunities along the UK South Coast and beyond.
FreeSpirit of the Sea has been developed by Angling Spirit as a long-term community asset, with the ambition of remaining operational for decades to come. Designed to support individuals of all ages and backgrounds, the boat will play a practical role in safety awareness, education and on-water engagement initiatives.
Barrus has supplied - and will oversee the installation of - twin Mercury V10 400hp outboards, specified with Joystick Piloting (JPO), Next Generation DTS controls and SmartCraft integration.
The fully integrated propulsion and rigging package provides precise low-speed handling, confident manoeuvrability in confined marina and harbour settings and the operational reliability required for a vessel working year-round in demanding coastal conditions.
Ben Allen, Head of Marine at Barrus, commented, "FreeSpirit of the Sea is a remarkable project with a clear and lasting purpose. From a technical standpoint, the specification needed to reflect reliability, control, and operational confidence. This build also showcases the broader integration between Mercury and Navico Group, both Brunswick companies, and how seamlessly they are redefining the way people experience boating through connected technologies.
“The Mercury V10 platform, combined with advanced rigging and integrated technologies, delivers exactly that. We are proud to be involved and to ensure the vessel is equipped with a propulsion package that truly matches both its quest and the demanding environments in which it will operate."
For a project designed to operate year-round in all weathers, continuity of support and dependable engineering are critical. Barrus’ involvement ensures full technical backing and long-term support throughout the vessel’s operational life.
FreeSpirit of the Sea is scheduled for launch in late April, marking the beginning of what is intended to be a long service life with lasting impact.
