Here's a typical scene these days in UK Docks’ Endeavour Quay site in Gosport UK where a thriving workshop is packed with Royal Navy PAC 24s.
The PAC 24s, (or Pacific 24 Rigid Inflatable Boats, to give them their full official name), are designed to be deployed from ship or shore for anti-piracy or drugs missions, or to perform rescue operations.
UK Docks Marine Services says the PAC 24s are very effective and efficient vessels, and regard it as a privilege to carry out maintenance, defect and refit work on them.
“We have to be pretty effective and efficient ourselves, though, in moving them around in our yard.
“It can be a tight squeeze, with 20 boats or more in our facility at any one time, so the operation needs to run smoothly to ensure vessels get out on time for sea trials or for transit back to their units.”
