Ravestein B.V. is currently hard at work in the Port of Sheerness UK for Peel Ports Group.
Ravestein’s floating cranes, Skylift 2 and Skylift 3, along with tug Feije, are driving steel piles into the seabed to form the foundation for a new vessel berth.
Peel Ports Group is investing £30million into the development of a new RoRo (Roll-on, Roll-off) berth at the Port of Sheerness to meet growing demand from new and existing customers.
The project will see a new in-river vessel berth and floating pontoon developed, which will increase capacity for RoRo cargo handling at the port, catering for larger vessels exceeding 230m LOA.
The new berth and pontoon will cater for RoRo vessels arriving at the port, carrying commodities such as automotives, paper reels and timber, construction machinery and building materials, project cargo, agribulks, and steel.
There are 12 piles in total – each pile is 2.5m in diameter, 52 metres long and weighs approximately 110 tons.
The next phase will see the installation of the 75m long by 34m wide RoRo pontoon – fully designed and built by Ravestein – watch the very smooth launch here.
The new berth is expected to be operational in the summer of 2025
