Seawork's Women in Marine Industry (WiMI) event returns for Seawork 2026., sponsored by SLR Recruitment.
Come and join us on Wednesday 10 June (day two of Seawork) at 1530 on the Seawork event space for a great opportunity to share career experiences and know-how, hear about key industry developments, and share a convivial glass or two whilst renewing and expanding networks. Meet our inspirational speakers who will share their work stories and challenges, and the things they learnt along the way.
The Seawork 2026 Women in Marine Industry event will be moderated bySara Roads. An ex-seafarer herself, Sarah is the owner of award winning SLR Marine and Local Recruitment supplying contractors and permanent positions in Portsmouth and in dockyards around the UK.
WISTA UK board member Captain Louise Sara will speak on behalf of event supporters WISTA UK. WISTA UK is a member of WISTA International, the global organization dedicated to advancing women in shipping and trading. With members in over 59 countries, WISTA International provides a platform for networking, knowledge-sharing, and professional development opportunities for women across the maritime spectrum.
Amilia Busby is one of this year's panellists. Amilia currently works for Heidelberg Materials. She is a Third Engineer working at sea who came into the maritime industry with no prior mechanical engineering background. A Warsash Maritime School alumna, she completed a three-year cadetship, graduating with an HND in Marine Engineering, and achieving her EOOW CoC Unlimited.
Amilia says, “This taught me extreme resilience, adaptability, and how to learn fast in a demanding environment. Day to day, I enjoy getting my hands dirty, solving problems, and constantly learning. The kind of work that pushes you, keeps you grounded, and builds confidence over time is what I love.”
Alongside her role at sea, Amilia is an emerging leader who uses her time ashore to stay engaged with the industry, promote careers at sea, and connect with other seafarers. Her natural interest has led to the creation of Shipmates Network, a growing community built for seafarers at all stages to share experiences, support one another, and grow professionally.
