At Seawork we are always looking for ways to support seafarers around the globe, so we are delighted to be working once again with Mercy Ships as our charity partner for 2026.
By partnering with Mercy Ships UK, Seawork aligns itself with a humanitarian cause rooted in maritime expertise - showcasing the industry’s essential role in bringing safe, free surgical care to some of the world’s most underserved regions.
This international charity relies on skilled volunteers, with marine or medical training, in partnership with developing nations, to deliver accessible, free surgery and medical care for those in unjust poverty and urgent need. Seawork first partnered with Mercy Ships in 2024. We hope that the continuing partnership continues to raise awareness of the amazing work that these hospital ships and their volunteers crew achieve.
Founded in 1978 by Don and Deyon Stephens, Mercy Ships has worked in more than 55 countries, providing services valued at more than £1.3 billion. By improving healthcare delivery in every country the charity visits, Mercy Ships is working to eradicate the diseases of poverty.
Operating the world's largest civilian hospital ships, Mercy Ships needs committed volunteers, ready to bring unique talents and skills to keep the hospital ships functioning. The charity needs housekeepers, deckhands, ophthalmic surgeons and so much more. In fact, to keep the hospital ships running, Mercy Ships needs to cover 100 different professions and have a volunteer crew of at least 1000 people at any one time. Since its inception, Mercy Ships has trained over 53,000 medical professionals.
