AIS has been awarded a significant offshore contract as part of a SURF (Subsea Umbilicals, Risers and Flowlines - offshore project piping) development some 300 kilometres southeast of Santos, Brazil.
The pre-salt field is in the Santos Basin; an approximately 352,000 square kilometres sedimentary basin located in the south Atlantic Ocean. Pre-salt oil is of good quality, although it is found in reserves that are in deep-sea areas and under thick layers of salt, requiring large-scale investment to extract it.
The provision is for ContraTherm® C25 insulation of pipeline end terminations (PLETs), inline anchors (ILAs) and jumpers. Significantly, the scope is the first custom coating project to be managed and run by a full Brazilian crew.
C25 is a flexible subsea solution and was selected due to its ability to provide flow assurance to complex subsea equipment, even in high-pressure and high-temperature environments. Water depths for this field are around 2,000 metres, making C25 an ideal solution.
Business Development Manager Guilherme Martins said, “This SURF custom coating contract is the third of this kind in Brazil and the second for the same customer. Whilst solidifying the reputation of our high quality, high performance and practical solution, this scope makes C25 even more desirable when it comes to winning similar contracts in a booming market.”
Large oil and natural gas reserves are located under salt layers that extend for 800 kilometres along the Brazilian coast – from the coast of Santa Catarina to the coast of Espírito Santo.
