Diverse Marine has publicly unveiled the independent ‘Caister Lifeboat’ which has been built from funds raised by the community and backed by long term celebrity supporter and charity patron, the presenter and comedian Jim Davidson, OBE. Following a successful self-righting trial in early April, the14m Medina Class Lifeboat sea trials are now underway. The lifeboat has performed above expectations, achieving well over the contract speed at 37.5 kts. Saving lives in Norfolk since 1791, Caister Lifeboat is an independent charity and was Britain’s first independent lifeboat service. The charity has been supported and visited by a host of celebrities and royals and in 2012 was presented with the Queen’s award for voluntary service – the equivalent of an MBE! Nusrat Ghani, Minister of State at His Majesty’s Government’s Department for Business and Trade visited the vessel during Seawork and spoke to Diverse Marine about the build programme. The boat is expected to be delivered to Norfolk and commissioned in the next few weeks.
