New contracts lead to team expansion

Naval architect firm Walker Marine Design (WMD) has announced the appointment of Gareth Gallagher to the award-winning team as part of the company's expansion following new contract wins.

Gareth trained and qualified as a Naval Architect and holds a BEng (Hons) Yacht Design and Production (1st) Southampton Solent University. Gareth joins the WMD team, comprising MD and Principal Naval Architect James Walker, who won the European Commercial Marine Award for Maritime Professional of the Year in 2018, Nikki Walker, Business Development Director, and Alec MacLean, Naval Architect, who joined the firm in 2016.

Headquartered in Southampton, UK, WMD’s vessel designs span pilot boats, workboats, research & survey ships, wind farm service vessels, through to specialist craft for high-speed patrol and SAR operations.

New contract wins for WMD include Metalcraft Marine Inc. (MCM) for the first of a line of specialist, new firefighting and pilot vessels destined for the Kuwaiti oil fields.

Recent builds include a 14m firefighting vessel which has now been delivered to South America, a new 24m semi-SWATH CTV for Mainprize Offshore - now operating in Germany, and a new Meercat 15m multirole workboat for Guernsey Harbours.

A 24m Aquaculture Vessel headed for Malta and a 24m semi-SWATH CTV for European wind farm operations are currently in build.

James Walker, WMD Managing Director, commented: “We are delighted that Gareth has joined our team and we are looking forward to another exciting year ahead for our business.”
