It could be said that Southampton UK-based company SpiralWeld shies away from publicity. Not only did this mission-critical remanufacturing company exhibit for the first time at Seawork, but it’s the first time the company has ever exhibited its services publicly. “You could say we’re exhibition virgins,” says Operations Manager Kevin Brown.
Until now, SpiralWeld’s skills in remanufacturing critical components has been focussed on the nuclear power, CCGT power stations and energy from waste sectors. “For the last 35 years we’ve always relied on word of mouth,” says Stuart Rowe, General Manager.
SpiralWeld offers a remanufacturing and repair welding solution developed over many years to recover, repair and upgrade damaged components. It uses high-quality certified alloy overlays to ensure parts can function efficiently and reliably under strenuous and unpredictable conditions. Repairing mission critical components is around 80% cheaper and significantly quicker than getting in new parts, says Commercial Manager Keith Allen.
The company says there have been a number of good quality leads arising from its attendance at Seawork. “Being here has opened up a new sector for us. We’ve made contact not only with the OEMs but also service companies who can bring us in to carry out specialist repairs to prop shafts, rudder stocks, and other components such as stern seals,” says Rowe.
