The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) (UK) has appointed Steven Bishop FCILT and Stephen Fidler OBE FCILT as Vice-Presidents, bringing extensive public and private sector experience to the Institute.
The appointments strengthen Seawork supporter CILT (UK)’s representation of the transport and logistics profession and its role in supporting members. Both Steven Bishop and Stephen Fidler bring extensive experience across transport, government and the wider built environment, spanning policy, strategy, planning, infrastructure and passenger transport.
Steven Bishop is also Director at Steer, a leading international consultancy specialising in infrastructure, cities and transport advisory and planning.
A transport planning and economic development professional, Steven has worked for more than two decades across the public and private sectors, working with government, operators, investors, academia and local communities to integrate economic development, planning and mobility.
Steven is also an active contributor to the profession, regularly speaking at industry events and aiding discussions on local and regional transport, sustainable growth and the wider role of transport. Commenting on his new role, Steven Bishop said, “I’m delighted to take on the role of Vice President at CILT (UK). At a time when transport has such an important role in supporting economic growth, connecting communities and assisting new homes and development. CILT (UK) has a crucial role in bringing different perspectives together, sharing knowledge and strengthening the professional expertise we need to adapt and grow. I look forward to adding my experience and helping ensure our profession continues to make a strong contribution to the challenges and opportunities ahead.”
Stephen Fidler is also the Director of Local Passenger Transport & Inclusion at the Department for Transport (DfT). As a senior civil servant with more than 30 years’ experience in transport across government. His previous roles include the No 10 Policy Unit and the then Department of the Environment, as well as senior positions within DfT. He is a Fellow of CIHT and CILT (UK) and received an OBE for services to transport in the 2019 New Year Honours List.
Commenting on his appointment, Stephen Fidler said, “I am hugely motivated by the difference transport can make for people and communities. It is a privilege to be invited to become one of the Vice-Presidents and play my part in supporting the Institute’s vital work. I have seen the difference that committed and skilled transport professionals make to people's lives and growth. I look forward to supporting that work and helping the Institute grow from strength to strength.”
