Congratulations Harry ‘B’ or should that now be ‘e’?First, fastest and youngest to circumnavigate the UK in an electric boat, it’s 18-year-old Harry Besley.
Seen at Seawork a few weeks before the start, The Round Britain eRIB Challenge was successfully completed by Harry, and his co-pilots, yesterday (Wednesday 14 August) as he returned to his starting point of Lyme Regis, Dorset, UK, 1600 nautical miles later.
Despite best endeavours from the industry, whilst charging points for vehicles are proliferating, it’s not quite the same in the world of marine.
Standard marina facilities provide an AC supply but as with electric cars, a faster charge can be delivered from a DC fast charger. Where it was possible, the Evoy-powered vessel ‘Electra’ was charged at DC chargers which had already been installed at some marinas in the UK. However, Harry’s support crew and mum, Jaqui, regularly had to haul ‘Electra’ out on to her trailer to tow her to the nearest supermarket car park fast charging point ready for the next leg of the adventure. The larger the connection the faster the charge for the Breeze 120+ electric motor system.
Seawork was proud to be a sponsor of The Round Britain eRIB Challenge along with a number of Seawork exhibitors including SM Group, Energy Solutions, Marine Fire Safety, UKHMA, English Braids, Jotron, Vulkan, Evoy and Garmin.
Congratulations, Harry, and a well-deserved rest, Jaqui!
