Start-up Swedish company Cetasol, an independent spin off from Volvo Penta, develops intelligent, data driven deep science solutions designed to help reduce fuel consumption. Launching its iHelm Captain display at Seawork, Head of Sales Jeremy Peter says that within months of installing the system, vessels can expect around 5% savings in fuel consumption.
The iHelm Captain display collects vessel data to provide insights from the engine, machinery and factors such as speed, wind, and weather conditions. Using AI and deep data, it provides actionable insights onscreen with two gauges – one showing speed and the other fuel – which clearly display how effectively the vessel is operating and the optimum fuel savings available whilst still meeting operational requirements.
Real time intelligent dynamics are combined with historical data to show captains and vessel operators the most economical way to operate the vessel and to produce positive fuel consumption savings. The new iHelm Captain features three different operational modes – repeatable, semi-repeatable and non-repeatable operations – all of which benefit from the insights obtained and specifically targeted to their needs. “In addition, our deep data enables fleet operators and captains to compare vessels, routes and external factors such as weather, and by corelating all that against factors including bunker data, we can see patterns of consumption behaviour from individuals and even between different captains,” says Peter.
Coming fresh from NorShipping to Seawork, Peter says he’s looking forward to connecting with customers including CTVs, tug and pilot boat operators, small tankers and coastal shipping operators.
