Stepping into the breach

As parts of the UK are inundated yet again, new to M&CCE Expo exhibitor P & D Environmental Ltd is likely to be involved once more in mitigating the effects of flooding.

The company has plenty of experience having been involved in the work to stabilise the Whaley Bridge Dam; working alongside specialist teams from the emergency services, the RAF and Kier.

P & D Environmental Ltd, sister company to the Pontoon and Dock Company, took part in the fabrication and installation of bespoke floating Pump cages to house the 12-inch pumps that were installed to drain the water from Toddbrook reservoir.

Following a site visit P & D Environmental Ltd had designed, fabricated and had the first unit installed just over 60 hours later with the other two units being installed shortly afterwards.

The floating units enabled the pumps to be positioned within the reservoir in such a way that the water level could be reduced without the need for the pumps to be relocated as the level decreased, with the ability to access the pumps if the need arose.

The units were designed to remain in place to control water levels inside the reservoir until a long-term solution could be found.
