Marine Autonomous Surface Systems (MASS) have the potential to transform work at sea as regulatory barriers are removed.

Join the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) on Tuesday 10 June, the first day of Seawork, for ‘Enabling Maritime Autonomy: MASS Applications, Workforce Readiness, and Industry Impact’.

The event will explore the different use cases for MASS that will emerge among energy companies and other end users, and the skills and training needed to enable these technologies to drive safety, efficiency, and sustainability in marine operations.

Presentations from Gary Sanders of Ocean Infinity, chair of IMCA’s MASS Committee, and Dr Dmytro Makarchuk, Senior Lecturer – Bridge Simulation and Ship Handling at Warsash MASS Research Centre (Warsash Maritime School, part of Southampton Solent University) will precede a panel discussion and Q&As.

Speakers and delegates will explore MASS awareness and share insight into end user needs, look at training requirements, current capabilities, and opportunities for collaboration in the roll out of MASS. Lessons learned from early adopters, the role for MASS in SAR and security – e.g. monitoring windfarms and underwater cables, and how MASS could change and support offshore construction are all likely to come under scrutiny.

Richard Purser, Technical Adviser – Marine  at IMCA, comments, “Marine Autonomous Surface Systems are not just a glimpse of the future—they are rapidly becoming a cornerstone of modern marine operations.

“This seminar is a vital opportunity for industry experts, end-users, and academics to come together to shape the responsible deployment of these technologies and the skills and training that will be needed to operate them. IMCA is proud to support this dialogue as we collectively work to enhance safety, efficiency, and sustainability at sea.”
