Dominic Hudson is the Shell Professor of Ship Safety and Efficiency at the University of
Southampton and leads the Centre for Maritime Futures. His research focuses on all aspects
of hydrodynamics, with particular emphasis on ship design and operational performance for
improved energy efficiency. Dominic works closely with Shell Shipping and Maritime,
providing expert advice on ship efficiency, decarbonisation strategies, performance
management, and the development of future ship designs. He is a member of RINA’s
International Maritime Organisation (IMO) committee, providing input and review of
submissions to IMO meeting and committees. In addition to his maritime research, Dominic
contributes to the Performance Sports Engineering Laboratory, supervising research across a
range of sports, including sailing and swimming.
