A pioneering aquaculture net cleaning pump, designed and manufactured by North-east Scotland based engineering specialists, Brimmond, has successfully completed further trials with a world-leading supplier in the sector.
Brimmond’s NetJet™ recently concluded its second live industry campaign with AKVA Group, the world’s largest supplier of support and services to the aquaculture sector. The net cleaning pump was deployed to Loch Fyne in late 2024 for a 60-day trial, to test out product improvements following an earlier project on a fish farm near Mull.
Managing Director of Brimmond, Tom Murdoch said, “The extended trial period allowed our team to really put the unit through its paces and implement a few further product improvements.
“Overall this was a fantastic opportunity for us to demonstrate not only the unit’s efficiency and reliability in a live industry setting, but also the reduced maintenance costs thanks to its exceptional build quality and responsive customer support package.”
Donald Fowler, Commercial Manager at AKVA Group Scotland, added, “Having worked with the Brimmond team on the NetJet’s second live industry outing, we were keen test it over a further extended period of time on one of our client’s facilities – a leading international fish farm operator - on the West Coast.
“We were extremely impressed by how easy the unit is to operate, and how quiet it is. What’s more the NetJet’s higher power output yielded superior cleaning results, enhancing efficiency. Clean nets promote better fish welfare, which is always our priority.”
The units were initially designed to fill a gap in the market for an affordable but high-quality net cleaning solution as a rental option, but Brimmond has since experienced exceptional demand from customers looking to purchase the units outright. The engineering specialists have adapted their business model in response, and are now offering an expanded range of NetJet™ units available to purchase in a range of engine sizes.
